Ingredients

For the Treats
  • ½ cup Unsalted Butter Can be substituted with salted butter by omitting additional salt.
  • 6 cups Regular Marshmallows You can use pink or white marshmallows for variety.
  • 4 cups Rice Bubbles Ensure you use plain Rice Bubbles (Krispies) for the correct texture.
  • ½ tsp Salt Enhances flavor and balances sweetness.
  • Red Food Colouring Used to create a spooky appearance; add more for a deeper color.

Equipment

  • heatproof bowl
  • pot
  • Whisk
  • spatula
  • toothpick

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare a bain-marie to melt the marshmallow mixture. Boil ½ cup of water in a small pot, placing a large heatproof bowl on top to create steam.
  2. Add ½ cup of unsalted butter and 6 cups of marshmallows into the heatproof bowl. Stir continuously with a whisk for about 2 to 4 minutes until melted and smooth.
  3. Remove the bowl from the heat. Stir in ½ teaspoon of salt and red food coloring, mixing thoroughly until evenly colored.
  4. Pour 4 cups of Rice Bubbles into a separate bowl. Quickly pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the Rice Bubbles and mix gently.
  5. Lightly oil your hands and shape mixture into ovals resembling brains, creating indentations in the center.
  6. Transfer shaped brains onto a parchment-lined tray and allow to cool completely for about 30 minutes.
