Ingredients
Scale
1 head green cabbage
1 pound ground beef or turkey
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 large egg
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Remove the core from the cabbage and carefully peel off 12 large leaves. Blanch the leaves in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened, then drain and set aside to cool.
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, shredded cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, black pepper, paprika, oregano, and thyme. Mix until well combined.
Take a cabbage leaf and place about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture in the center. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and roll it up tightly. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.
Drizzle the cabbage burgers with olive oil and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the cabbage is tender.
Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce or condiment.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add a teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.
You can also substitute the ground meat with a plant-based alternative for a vegetarian option.
