Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup cherry pie filling
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Turn the flour mixture onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently until it comes together. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Cut the dough into squares, approximately 4×4 inches.
  7. Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each square, followed by a spoonful of cherry pie filling.
  8. Fold the corners of each square towards the center, pinching to seal.
  9. Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a different fruit filling, substitute cherry pie filling with blueberry or apple pie filling.
  • Add a sprinkle of sliced almonds on top before baking for added crunch and flavor.
