Campfire Apple Pie Packets are a fun and easy dessert perfect for outdoor cooking, featuring tender apples mixed with cinnamon and sugar, all wrapped in foil and cooked over a campfire.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
  • 4 large sheets of aluminum foil (about 12x12 inches each)
  • 1 cup granola or crushed graham crackers (optional for crunch)
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your campfire or grill to medium heat.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, brown sugar, and salt. Toss until the apples are well coated.
  3. Lay out a sheet of aluminum foil and place a quarter of the apple mixture in the center. Top with a tablespoon of butter.
  4. If using, sprinkle granola or crushed graham crackers over the apples for added texture.
  5. Fold the foil over the apples to create a sealed packet, ensuring there are no openings for steam to escape.
  6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 for the remaining apple mixture and foil sheets.
  7. Place the packets on the grill or campfire grate and cook for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until the apples are tender.
  8. Carefully remove the packets from the heat. Let them cool for a minute before opening, as steam will escape.
  9. Serve warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a caramel flavor, add a tablespoon of caramel sauce to the apple mixture before sealing the packets.
  • Experiment with different fruits like pears or peaches for a unique twist on this classic dessert.
