Beef Tataki with Citrus Soy Sauce is a refreshing dish featuring seared beef tenderloin served with a zesty citrus soy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound beef tenderloin, trimmed
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onions
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef tenderloin into 1-inch thick pieces. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. In a skillet over medium-high heat, add vegetable oil and sesame oil.
  3. Sear the beef for about 1-2 minutes on each side until browned but rare in the center.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, lemon juice, orange juice, grated ginger, and honey to create the citrus soy sauce.
  6. Once the beef has cooled, slice it thinly against the grain.
  7. Arrange the slices on a serving platter and drizzle with the citrus soy sauce.
  8. Sprinkle with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
  9. Serve immediately or chill for 30 minutes for a refreshing cold dish.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a few drops of sriracha to the citrus soy sauce.
  • You can also substitute the beef with tuna or salmon for a seafood variation.
